Subject: Re: Steering rack leak at seal

In article <8hlev0$9ir$1nopsam5.svr.pol.co.uk>, Andrew <alanbnopsamb.swinternet.co.uk> writes >The seal that fits around the steering column pinion that goes into the >steering rack has just started to leak a little fluid. Is it possible to >replace the seal instead of buying a reconditioned box? > >Alan > >900 8 v turbo 1989 > > > Sorry to crash in folks, but I have a related problem on a 1989 900i. I suddenly lost steering fluid after some work was done on the engine. I was told a new rack was needed and to top up the fluid with auto transmission fluid until it is fitted. I am wondering how important it is to use the correct SAAB recommended fluid? Maybe it would leak more slowly if it were more viscous? Any help would be appreciated. -- Julian J. Myers
