Subject: Re: 9000 Aero Exhaust Sound?

How long have you had the car? Any change for the worse would probably be noticed right away. The exhaust takes on a different sound as soon as a muffler or pipe develops a leak. The best way I can characterize the sound a leaking exhaust system makes is flatulent. I just replaced the final muffler on my '88 9000 Turbo. After unbolting the old one, I fired up the car for a minute, just to hear what it sounded like. I have to tell you, it took me straight back to my college days when I was so poor I couldn't put a real muffler on my Datsun 510--I had the guys put on a glass pack instead. And as wonderful as the Saab sounded, I realized it would get old on a 600-mile day, just like the Datsun did on quarter breaks.
