Can't answer that question but the new engine they are working on (with the odd moving block) may be a step in the right direction. Long term, improvements are likely to come from many places. One will invent an engine which behaves optimally over a wider range of speeds and fuels. Another will invent spark plus with smaller tendencies to foul. Another will invent an oil which breaks down less easily... You see where I am going? The place of companies such as SAAB in this could be to be among the first to offer (initially) fancier stuff to "everyday" users, and so get it out onto the road for public appraisal. I'll not underline any particular improvement, as my choices are bound to inflame someone's prejudices (seat belts and air bags, anyone?); but the likes of SAAB and Volvo have played this game for years. Just guessing. -- Andrew Stephenson
