I would change more often, simply to remove contaminants that invade the chemistry in the course of driving, but your interval will depend on your driving style. Make lots of short trips in cold weather? Change more often. Drive mostly on the highway? You might be able to go longer intervals. Since you own a non-turbo car, this would give the green light to longer intervals, however. I wouldn't go past 10k with a turbo car. Road & Track magazine recommends changing synthetics at 10k miles on the conservative side, 15k at the outer limit. I don't use Amsoil, but change at 10k with filter, mostly because its an easy divisor. FWIW, R&T recommends an across-the-board interval of 3k for fossil oils. If you want put high-mileage intervals to the test, find a good lab to analyze your oil at 5k intervals and watch the progress. Select your interval based on these tests.
