Subject: Re: years for best Saabs, and WORST -- newbie looking

Horace, Do a little research over at cars.com and at edmunds. I am also looking for one, but want a 91-93 turbo 3dr. I want these years because the abs and airbag are standard (1991 i think, or maybe 1990) and uprated brakes (1989) As for the years you are looking at, 91-93 are the same all 16 valve engines S models and base models (1991 and 1992 and no base model in 1993) have 2.1L engines, and I think that the S is low pressure turbo'd although it lists at the same 140HP as the base model. The turbo is 160 HP, and the SPG (not sold in 92 and 93) is 175. There is a special edition 1993 model with 185 HP all are black/tan and i have seen at least one convertible in the mix. As for the convertibles in general, it seems that you can pick your color, trim level and mileage andd just go out and buy one. There are tons of them on the autotrader and cars.com and us.trader.com. It is a bit dismaying to me that there are so few 3dr turbo 5sp for sale in these model years as I would pay good money for a clean one. ALso, the convertible was the 'classic' body style up to 1994. after that, it is the newer one. As for the new body style, I would not get one any older than 1996 as the first 2 years had some electrical issues (1994-1995). The new body style is much quieter and much better equiped (get the SE equipment level and stay away from the v6) and it is a much more conventional looking car (opinion) which still has some of that saab panache. The above are my opinions and nothing more. It was what you were asking for, though :-). please, group, correct what is incorrect with my statements, and add to this.
