The radio in my 1991 9000 slides into a cage that has an amplifier attached to it. The cage is fairly firmly mounted. From what I recall, you must take the radio out with the removal tools before you can even try to get the cage out. Thanks for the suggestion anyway. I'm sure it works on other cars. BTW, your method works for removing the ACC controller. It comes out easily by removing the ashtray and reaching in from behind.
