Thomas: I have a 9-5 wagon also and I am familiar with the towing bolt you described. Would it be possible to get a shorter one from a hardware store? This may eliminate the danger of smashing the eyebolt on the ground. I am interested to know your results since I am thinking about buying a kayak and will face the same dilemma. Another note: how do you keep the ropes from chafing the paint on the hood? P.S. Just had another thought. would it be possible to tie a line from the bow of the canoe to the roof rack?
