Hi, Yup, I know about this one. My arse dropped through my seat this past winter (in a 1983 900GL 8v) and I fixed it with a half hour's work. The middle of the seat bottom is heavy cloth (burlap?). Springiness in the seat is due to two rubber strips on either side. My guess is that one of them has torn. If you try the following, you can probably avoid buying a seat from the wreckers'. Disconnect the plug for the seat heater, remove the two bolts securing the seat frame (front) to the chassis, take the seat out and turn upside down. Hopefully you'll now see what gave way. You can "sew" it back together. I used cable ties of the type that are used inside PC's (and cars too) to keep the wires in bunches. Maybe they're called "zip ties" or something like that - in Swedish they're called "buntband". You can also use ordinary twine or heavy string. Poke small holes in the rubber using an awl. But the key to a fix that will last is to make sure that the number of stitches across the broken rubber is at least 12-15. If you punch *fewer* holes in the rubber, then the stress on each hole will be too great and you'll risk tearing the material again. Another solution that I'm toying with, for when the seat fails next time, is to stitch in a piece of sailcloth. In the meantime I've decided to get rid of my pot belly to see if that prolongs the life of the seat. Good luck, email if you need more ideas (remove NOSPAM in address).
