Rod, The Clarion stock radio in my 1990 9000T was pretty bad at picking up stations outside of town. I once posted the same query you have to the Saab Network BB, and was told that part of the problem was in the antenna design (optimized for FM) and the radio as well. Replace your radio with a Blaupunkt and hear the difference.
