Suitable starting values: try equal to coil resistance, working upwards if that makes it too insensitive. Most modern tin oxide, 2%-tolerance resistors are cheap, tough and well made. Wattage almost certainly will not need to be large. The coils cannot be dropping much voltage, being current-sensors, and the resistors are unlikely to have to shunt much power. NB: this should be reality-tested by someone competent -- YMMV. -- Andrew Stephenson
