> Do you have any history on the car? Yes, it came with a complete history. The original owner gave it to her brother for her niece and nephew to drive while they were in high school. It has been in the same family since new. It turns out that my niece and nephew know the kids that have driven it for the last four years. They weren't the hot-rod kinda' kids. The original SAAB owner portfolio-like-container with all the service records, manuals, and so on are in the car. > If not, change the fluids, check the brakes, check the hoses and belts. Change > plugs, > check the catalytic converter heat shield. I will check all the fluids, and change if needed. I have the Haynes manual already (which I know from my Volvo is painfully inadequate) and will order the Bentley manual this week. Is there a problem with the cat. converter heat shield? I was curious as to what I would have, or should have, looked for if I had made the purchase in a more planned and deliberate fashion. As it is the Volvo wouldn't run, I'd been working on it for a couple of weeks, and had the engine wiring harness mangled in a ham-fisted shop. I saw the ad in the paper and looked at the car. They were asking $800 and I offered $600. They took it without haggling. I almost feel like a thief. It does have a few problems but they seem minor (needs a battery and freon in the a/c), or cosmetic (cracked dash and dent behind left rear wheel). In Volvo-land (the brickboard (www.brickboard.com)) there are a few known failure points and things-to-watch-for. The disintegrating wiring harness on my car is one of those things. I wondered if there are known failure points, and things to look for, with 88 SAAB 900s 's as well? thanks for all your help, Larry Bowden
