Subject: gearbox question



hi
i have a 91 9000S with 270,000k, mostly highway, original engine,
gearbox, clutch

i have a slightly noisy 5th gear when the engine is pulling

saab shop says replace pinion bearing for 5th (& for 4th) gear

but then says 'by the time we do this we may as well replace the
gearbox, and the clutch'

question: do i just replace the pinion bearings; or re-build the gearbox
and do the clutch?
