Subject: Ticking noise from behind speedometer

Hi, I own a 1993 900SE (classic shape). There is a strange ticking noise eminating from behind the speedometer. The sound is more noticeable some of the time and barely audible at other times, the speed of the ticking increases and decreases with the speed of the car. I assume that it is something to do with the cable which connects to the speedometer. Am I correct in my assumption ?. If so is there a fairly simply remedy ?. Thanks, Matthew.
