My wife and I love Saab 900's. Our last one was a 1987 900S. When my wife got into a bad accident a couple months back, the great construction of that car saved her life. But the car was totaled. We regretted seeing it go and set out to find another 900. Our options were dim, as there were not many 900's available. We saw an ad in the paper for a 1983 Saab located at a local thrift store organization that sold donated cars. It turned out to be a 1983 900T, for $500, AT(unfortunately), and black. The exhaust pipe was detached from rust right behind the cat. conv. and it was running hot. We decided to take the gamble and bought it for $450. Over the next week we had the right front axle replaced, both rear calipers and pads replaced, a front motor mount replaced, thermostat, radiator, oil seal, vac. advance, and the exhaust work done. Now it runs like a dream, well almost...it would if it were a five speed;-) So all in all the car has cost us less than $2500. Sweeeet! And to think we even thought of buying a new car! A couple things that I have to work on include the power locks. In the Bentley manual, the power lock information is stated for 1984+. Is this info good also for our 1983? Same electronics & etc.? Any tips on trouble shooting? At this point their is no audible elec. engagement in the left door when the key is turned. The rear hatch lock was frozen shut until I got to it, now fine.
