Actually it should be a shade over 140. I had my 96 900SE turbo in Spain for a few years, and had it up over 140 mph many times. Speed limit enforcement is kind of lax on the highways there. According to the sales brochure, it was 142 or so, and I think it was right on. The car was very smooth at high speeds, and I did a number of hour-long runs at 100+ mph. As an aside, I bought a 99 9-5 right before I left, and it also will do 140, although it doesn't feel as smooth. Mine was a manual, so I don't know if the automatic will change things. I don't think there were many engine changes from 96 to 97.
