Douglas, Think carefully before buying a Saab with a dodgy gearbox. They are very difficult to rebuild successfully because the preload needs to be set professionally. Usual rebuild cost by professional is $1500 plus. You could search out a used tranny though (try to get an '89 or newer since they are stronger). Engine is best lifted to change tranny. Alan. There is an 1987 Saab S with 168,000 miles and tranny problems on Ebay. > I'm not sure if I'm ready to jump in just yet, but it sure does look interesting. > I've never rebuilt a tranny before, but there is a first for everything. > > Douglas > > DSJKALLEN wrote: > > > I have two classic 900s: an '85 900 base 4-door sedan with the 8-valve engine > > with 126K, and an '87 900S 3-door hatch with the 16-valve engine with 127K.
