Subject: Steam from 88 900i

Hi, I have a 1988 Saab 900i with 61K on the clock. Its ran well all its life but has been loosing coolant slowly for the past 6 months or so. Today I noticed that steam was coming from the exhaust, at least a white smoke like substance which felt wet was, now normally I'd put it straight down to a blown head gasket, but the cars been loosing coolant, like I said, for the past 6 months with no steam and its running no hotter and has no less power than it has ever had. So does anyone know what it could be. Its like when its started on really cold mornings, but permanently. I've got to do a 50mile or so trip tomorrow I'll be topping it up with coolant right to the line and I'll see if its lost any by the time I get back. The only thing which is of note is that today was wet, could it be sucking water into the exhaust or induction system somehow? Thus causing the steam, the coolant loss doesn't seem enough to justify the amount of steam. Thanks In Advance Matt
