I'll give a recommendation to ScanWest -- I've had two Saabs (an '85 900 and a '91 9000 turbo) worked on there since 1989, and in general they're a real good outfit. Excellent at diagnosing problems, excellent at repair, very good at creative solutions not necessarily found in the book (they can often patch together something from used parts if new stuff won't work or you don't want to pay for it). Much better than dealers. In my experience they're honorable people, and there isn't anything they can't fix -- for instance lots of shops (including dealers) won't rebuild a tranny; they'll just slap a rebuilt one in that came from elsewhere and call it good. ScanWest rebuilds trannies itself, and warranties them for 18 months. I guess my only beef, aside from the $75-per-hour shop rate, is that I think there are sometimes possible cost-saving measures they overlook. An example is a chain-tensioner replacement that can eliminate other problems down the road, and they've never mentioned that kind of thing to me -- they seem more inclined to wait for it to break, then fix it. B.
