A dealer has offered to fit, _free_, a cup holder in a 2001 9-3. This is a spare they have. They say SAAB do not regard this part with any enthusiasm, even though it was of official SAAB make, as it is not quite up to their ergonomic standards. I can see what they mean: it replaces the long, thin, horizontal plastic strip partway down the central instrumentation cluster; and when it is deployed cups and such would obstruct access to (AFAIR) the CD slot; but when stowed it hides (it seems) and should be out of the way. Would there be any real snag to accepting this offer? (I can see sudden braking leading to splashes all down the instruments.) Does the 2001 9-3 provide other real, practical ways of holding cups, cans etc? (The cup holders in the glove compartment door look like a clunky joke.) -- Andrew Stephenson
