Subject: Need opinion on 9000 trans fluid problem

It's a 1990 9000, 2.3 ltr with auto transmission. Had the engine replaced last year (another story) by an independant shop. Since then it drips transmission fluid. Took it to the dealer. They said the throttle kick down cable is leaking. A $600 repair. When I check the transmission fluid level it appears to be over the max level (level is read with engine warm and idling), which leads me to believe it was overserviced when the engine was replaced. I'm thinkin' the fluid is leaking through the kick down cable because it was over serviced. However, I'd hate to be wrong and destroy the tranny with an incorrect diagnosis. Any thoughts?
