No snow tire will "break the bank." They actually cost nothing. When you run your snows, your good tires are taking a break, not getting worn out. Overall cost of snows is the same or less than sticking with your summers. Plus, you're safe. The biggest mistake I see all the time are folks in the three year lease. "I'm not wasting money on snows!" well, there's no way in Hell you are going to make three years on one set of tires, so you end up turning it on on new ones. That said, talk to the folks at the Tirerack. Nobody can touch them for price or convenience. Buying them already mounted on steels (or alloys) saves mounting costs twice a season, monkey marks on your rims for each swap, and keeps your summer wheels out of the salt and crud. Four snows is the best money you will ever spend on a car besides oil changes.
