Dear All, Here is the latest update at http://www.nospam We are very proud to have been awarded an Open Directory 'Cool Site' award. The Open Directory is the largest human edited web directory in the world, used by the likes of Altavista, Lycos and Yahoo. During the 24 days in February since the site was relaunched we totalled over 17,000 visitors which we are very pleased with. Of the new features we added the one which surprised both myself and Paul most as being really popular is the 'Downloads' section where you can download screensavers, wallpapers and some brochures. Nearly 1,000 downloads during February ! Thanks to everyone for your continued support. I removed, rebuilt and replaced the Clutch Master Cylinder on my 1984 900T16S yesterday, but the clutch is still biting as soon as you take your foot off the pedal. Does this mean it cold be the Slave cylinder ? Suggestions welcome......... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- What's new: Please remember we offer a FREE Classifieds section where you can now also upload a picture of the item you are trying to sell or buy. If you are having trouble uploading your picture or just don't have an electronic copy, you can either e-mail the picture to us and we will add it for you or alternatively post the picture to us and we will scan it in and add it to your advertisement. Please contact us for details. New articles added to the Features section include a road test on the 900 Carlsson which was manufactured in limited numbers (200 a year) during 1989, 1990 and 1991. A new buyers guide courtesy of MSN carpoint which cover cars manufactured between 1988 and 1998. Matt Faulks has sent in details of his 1987 900i project car. It is absolutely amazing what Matt has planned for the car and has already made a good start, Matt will be sending in some pictures in the near future. Ade Yonkers has also sent me a short update on his 1980 900 turbo. Matt has also sent in a listing of Saab Insurance groupings for all models from 1979 to 1998. Very useful if you are considering purchasing a new Saab. Anyone who is a member of the Saab Owners Club of Great Britain will probably have read the excellent article featured in the latest 'Driver' by Fred Lane called 'Mind the doors'. Fred has kindly granted us permission to feature the article here on nospam with the addition of some pictures which Fred has sent to me. Fred's article can be found in the Tech Help section. Fred has some more articles in the pipeline which should be appearing on nospam in the near future. The Lucas injection-repair manual which was kindly converted from Finnish to English and sent to us by Marko Alatalo for the last site update has enjoyed over 100 downloads since being added. Thanks again Marko. Also new to the Tech Help section is a link to Raul's High Performance Mods page. Want to get 300 BHP out of your 900 on a budget ? then visit Raul's excellent website. Matt Faulks has written another excellent article covering Loudspeaker install and selection. Matt has also provided some updated information for his previous article 'Replacing and Fitting your stereo unit. This article now includes the wire colouring for standard ISO. New additions to the Gallery include Axel Bruns amazing Saab 906 "(rear wall is out of Ford P100). It is a 900 Turbo 16S with bigger intercooler and 3 inch exhaust. It does 200km an hour when empty and loaded i did with this Geo Storm on it 170km an hour. Seats we used From Toyota Supra , headlights 85 US mod. . we kept the sunroof working. Frontbrakes changed to vented disks ....and much more ... Next project is a 9000 turbo stationwagon!!". Wiecher Maarse's 900i. Conrad A Helms 1992 900 with just 52,000 miles on the clock.Liam Sullivan's 1993 900S Convertible and finally Morten Hald's 1984 900T16. Some interesting e-mails we have received recently...... Hi, I just thought you guys should know that there is an artist called Michael Landy who is doing an exhibition at one of the old C&A buildings ground floor on Oxford Street; London. ( The one near Selfridges). It is called Michael Landy's Break Down. It is a process where he is disposing of all his possessions, everything; including his rather nice Saab 900 classic turbo! There is a production line of people dismantling everything before it goes into a grinder. Everything will eventually be exhibited in transparent boxes. He has a Saab engineer breaking down his car before it goes, piece by piece into the grinder. It is up in the air in all it's glory whilst it is being crucified! It made the news a couple of Fridays ago and I saw the car and thought oh no, what's he doing? I had to go down there and check it out for myself. It is quite disturbing to watch this. It is free. I offered to buy his alloy wheels from him for my classic. He did not take up the offer............. MarkB Yes, I have to admit it, I was stupid enough to be talked into (by the rest of the family) swapping my proper 900 GLS for a new shape 900S.More of that later. You mention gearboxes giving up at perhaps 60, 000 miles. Hmmmm. I've ran 4 900's to over 130,00 miles and I've never had gearbox problems. Two of 'em had replacement stearing racks at 72 and 76 thousand which seemed fairly consistent with what others I've talked to have had. What I have found though which you haven't mentioned is that front nearside brake calipers have a habit of seizing. Perhaps I drive too near the kerb or something? I always had the exhausts done at "Mr. Exhaust" and found them to last as long as any SAAB system for a little cheaper. Clitches ( I think that I mean clutches!) seem to consistently last me around 70-75,000 miles. Going back to gearboxes, did anyone ever have one that wasn't a shove to get into first? Now, the new ones. On the plus side, the MPG is markedly better, the split rear seats are a boon, as is the ski hatch - perfect for my fishing rods. But it doesn't feel as solid as a proper one and the seats are definitely not as comfortable. On a 345 mile drive to Cornwall I could step out of a proper one as fresh as the proverbial but my legs are aching after about 200 miles in the new one. Oh since you ask I'm 6' 3" and fourteen stone - sort of proper sized, which was the main reason for me buying the first one in 1980. Since I've been a regular customer at my local dealers for nearly sixteen years the servicing manager has become more open with me and tends to agree when I suggested that the best cars SAAB ever made were F, G, H and J reg 900i and 900s. He says that for his money he would definitely get a Ruby, apparently they were put together by a particular team on a special line. It may be so, I have a colleague who bought one new and it has never had any fault of any sort. Well, I have to go now, my car is ready to collect from "Valley SAAB" in Chipstead where it has just had it's 112.000 mile service and the clutch replaced - it was the original one! In response to the gearbox statement from what I have heard over the years it really comes down to how well you treat them. Dear Simon, I love the new site, I have been continually drive classic 900s since 1979! We currently have : 1987 - 900T16S white 3 door with a whale tail ( owned since 1988) 1985 - 900i 5 door auto metallic silver (wife's car since 1990) 1984 - 900GLS 3 door man metallic blue (owned since 1999 - starter for 20 yr old son) .... we also have 1 x 96TS, 1x96V4 souvenir, 3x95V4, 3x99, 1x9000 2.3i, 1x9000 2.3T ! Regards from Dorset Nigel Bailey If I can add up correctly that's thirteen Saabs ! Mileage contributions from Jonas Karlsson (2), Matt Faulks, Henk Jan Oldenbandringh, Gordon Edwards and Joy Edwards. There have been a couple of new links added, David Blumberg's Saab site and a new Recommended Saab Specialist from Oliver St John - Trent Saab. The Events section has been brought up to date with details of the SOC National taking place in July. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- What's planned: We are looking at potentially adding a new feature which as far as I am aware is unique to any Saab site I know of and would prove to be a very useful tool for any Saab owner. Dying to know what it is? Still working on it I'm afraid, more soon As always we will be keeping our eyes peeled for new quality content and making tweaks to the site that will help to make it more user friendly. The latest Competition is proving to be the most popular ever. Have a go at the question and you could win a collectable 1:43 scale Saab 900 by Burago. It's free to enter ! What type of engine oil do you use ? Please vote at the latest Poll If you haven't already done so please to join the Mailing list, so we can keep you bang up to date with everything going on nospam. Thanks to everyone for their continued support helping make www.nospam the most comprehensive Classic Saab 900 website on the Internet. All the best - Simon.
