Subject: lock door with remote, open with key?

Hi, I have a 1996 900 SE Turbo. I noticed the range on my remote decreasing so I suspect the battery is dying and I will have to replace it. I was wondering what would happen if I locked the car with the remote, the battery dies, and I try to open it with the key. Well the alarm goes off. Is there any way to avoid this? I only have one remote and a spare key so if the battery dies, or I lose the remote, how do I open the car with the spare key without setting off the alarm? I know that there is a special 3 o'clock position that you can use the key to lock to and then open the door with the key. That is not much help in this case if you still want to use the alarm. Thanks for reading this, Ben
