Subject: intermittent no start and rough idle

My '91 9000 2.3 turbo has developed an intermittent no start and rough idle. It turns over fine, just does not catch, then starts as if nothing were wrong. It can run fine for ages then starts to rough idle, like it was only firing on 3 cylinders or such like, with the engine/exhaust vibrating terribly. I've also noticed a rotten egg smell when this happens. From what I've read I feel it may be the direct ignition cassette, but when I've tested it sparks fine, but then it is an intermittent problem so I may have just tested it when it was ok. What else is this likely to be so that I can try and eliminate other problems, or is it so likely to be the DI that I should just bite the bullet and replace it? thanks in advance for any suggestions David
