I don't know how safety (apart from your own) enters into it - Just about every rear mounted bike rack I've seen is an absolute danger to anyone apart from the occupants of the vehicle - protrusions sticking out at all angles ready to impale, rear view usually impaired, lights and number/licence plate completely obscured, hence illegal in the UK without a light/number plate board. The rear version of Bull Bars, ready to kill pedestrians and cyclists (particularly motorcyclists, of which I'm one, in addition to the Saab 9000). "Burton L.
