Not sure about a lambda sensor, but I think the carb had some sort of stepper motor to fine-tune the mixture, this was controlled by the ECU also an over-run fuel cut-off. Some jap cars and Rover Mini, Metro's had them, they were quickly dumped for single point injection systems. Too much fuel gets dumped with carbs, which destroys the cat!
