Subject: 80 wt. oil in gearbox of 1984 900?



I just brought my 1984 Saab 900 into the local SpeeDee for a quick
oil change and decided to have them change the gearbox oil while
they were at it. I asked the technician what he used and he said
"80/90 weight oil." I said the owner's manual says to use 10W-30,
which is what I have been using. He checked his reference book,
which said "80 weight oil can be substituted for 10W-30" in the 1984
Saab 900. Hmmm.

Does this sound right? I'd hate to muck up the gearbox since it's
been working great, smooth shifting and no problems.
