The RPM of 3500-3800 does not seem unusual for a non-turbo auto. The gearing ratio (often quoted as MPH/1000RPM) does seem to be dependent on markets and model year; petrol prices, perceived consumer preferences and traffic conditions. I find it annoying that motoring journos always emphasize top gear acceleration, it reflect their wheelspin driving habits. As a result, there has been a trend towards shorter gear ratios around 20 MPH/1000 RPM for sporting family saloons. Johannes
