Look for leaking shift shaft seal (rear of transmission) with flashlight. Feel for sloppy shift mechanism. Listen for clunking and other noises from the front strut tops (aggressive turning maneuver usually brings them out). Look for oil leaking from engine transmission interface. This is generally transmission lube from the 'snorkel tube'. Feel for stiff clutch. If you feel as though you may need to work out your left leg a bit more, the lube on the snorkel tube is hard and the rust from the snorkel tube (see leak above) has mingled with the lube and it is tough to depress the clutch. Easy repair for a dealer. More than I wanted to do in my garage at home due to special tools needed. If any or all of these are present, have the dealer repair them first. They are all known items with the NG900/9^3. The shift mechanism was changed in 97 or 98 to a much better type. Read the NG900 bulletin board on www.saabnet.com this link list other trends. http://216.78.173.190/entry/saab_failure_trends.htm If these problems exist and are covered by a dealer, these cars are very quiet, comfortable, fast (Turbo) and much less common than their Japanese counterparts with less snobbery than a BMW or Audi.
