Subject: Loss of Power, Black Smoke, 86 9000

Hello All - My 86 9000 (turbo, 5 spd), which had been running flawlessly, has suddenly developed a regular power loss problem under load. In most cases, the car is perfectly fine, but under moderate acceleration (pedal halfway down), and at about 3,000 RPM, the car starts hesitating and emitting great puffs of black smoke. The only solution is to back off a little, and it smooths right out. It does not appear that any dashboard lights are coming on, and I don't notice any other odd behavior. I've done a quick visual inspection, and I did not notice any hoses coming unattached, nor anything else out of whack. Any suggestions as to where to start troubleshooting? Granted, it probably could be one of a lot of things, fuel system or ignition or otherwise, but the more I can do before having to take it into the shop, the better. Many thanks, in advance. Rob Snyder
