There will always be a mix of purchasing modes. Firstly, the system will only work if there are is customer base willing to buy the "nearly new" leased cars. I guess only few private customers go in to a showroom and buy at showroom prices, they are looking for a knockdowm of sorts, they often buy a "demo", which they think of as a new car and all to often a dealer can sell such a "demo" at a very favourable price (for the dealer) based on his good reputation. The manufacturer is happy as this evens out the production flow. Companies who takes up the lease are happy because they work with short time horizons and contract staff and/or secondments from other branches. GM is showing the "fleet" mentality (huge rental car contracts with > rental companies in the US); without it I'm convinced GM would not > survive in the US. > The "fleet" mentality is very general. Everybody does it. > The Jackals won, what a shame!. > True, maybe. We have the typical company hacks which doen't last much longer than their three year company stint. Then we have the quality end of the market aimed more at the distinguished private buyer, and then the prestige market, ironically back again to the companies as the senior managers cars. The true bargain is a quality car having survived the company stint reasonably intact. That's how I got my marvelous 9000 CSE.
