Subject: Re: Suggestions for a Cup Holder Requested

I am glad you mentioned the radio as a distraction. One of the studies by a Department of Transportation was televised on the Discovery channel. They had average drivers go around a course once without any distractions to get a baseline. Then they had them do various things, like talk on a cell phone, drink water, change radio stations, change CDs, use a GPS device like ON-Star. The drivers did considerably worse with even a minor distraction, even worse than a drunk driver. Fortunately it was only foam people and foam cars that were hit. It was an eye opening experience for the test drivers, all who said they do these same things every day on the road. This may be wrong, but someone said it is a law in England that requires both hands on the steering wheel unless you are shifting. Holding a cup or cigar or phone would be illegal. Perhaps someone from England could verify this. The state of Maryland in the U.S. narrowly missed passing a law that explicitly banned the use of cell phones in cars while in motion. Remember this the next time there is an accident, and hopefully you are not involved or injured. Personally, I would feel very bad after killing a child, just because I was too distracted to stop in time after the kid darted out from between some cars. Saying "I'm sorry, I could not stop in time because I was drinking a soda or talking on the cell phone" is not very appropriate. I also have a personal reason for not eating or drinking in my Saab. I want it to stay clean. I have children and they seem to spill fries and soda on a regular basis, which is why my wife's van is trashed. Besides, with the classic 900s if you spill a drink, there is great risk of dumping it down the ignition switch. danny wrote: > Just because a vehicle has a cup holder fitted it doesn't follow that it will be > used while the vehicle is in motion?
