I have heard that it is something to do with blocked "drain > holes". Moisture in the air condenses on the cold parts of a running air conditioning unit, just as it would on anything else that's colder than the surrounding air. Typically, AC units have one or more small drains somewhere on their lower surface to drain the condensate off. Window air conditioners, for example, usually have a drain on the bottom of the part that sticks out the window, which is why they drip water on the poor unsuspecting passersby. Similarly, auto AC units have a drain hole or two. If they get clogged, condensate can build up and slosh around. (On my 1990 Honda Accord, during a long highway drive last summer, enough built up to drip into the footwells and temporarily short out the radio.) A piece of stiff wire should be sufficient to clean them out. I've never cleaned the ones on a Saab, but it should be pretty simple, once you find them.
