Sounds like you have low pressure in the ACC system, this can be checked by looking for bubbles in the sightglass of the receiver near the bulkhead. If you have no pressure at all the compressor will not cut in ever. I just had a new condensor fitted to my 1990 9000T & now it's perfect. Look for a dirty oily patch in the bottom corners of the condensor at the front of the car, this will indicate a very slow leak of the condensor.
