Look at it this way. If you've got lots of money, and no intention of
learning about cars, then yes, take it to a garage.

If, otoh, you want to save yourself some money, and learn about cars (most
of us here work on cars for fun), then I'd say these few jobs are perfectly
good beginner jobs. Brake pads are easy, as is the cam cover gasket. Get
yourself a manual, and some tools. Ask questions, here on this NG, and also
