Subject: Re: Off Topic - Cheapest air bag for new driver

I know young drivers don't exactly have a brilliant reputation, but cut the guy some slack. I learnt to drive in about 3 months at 17 (in the UK) and went straight on to drive a 1.6s Vauxhall for a year, and now a 2.0i 900. My only 'collision' in about 26,000 miles (so far) was when a prat ran into the back of the Vauxhall in broad daylight on a quiet street (the bloody things are indestructable at least!!) But I am tired of hearing about how young drivers are useless/reckless/stupid. On two occasions my quick reflexes have avoided pensioners from driving into my Saab. I'm not having a go at pensioners, most of them are very careful and we all make the occasional error of judgement, and they need their cars far more then I need mine (especially if they are disabled), it's just that I'm just fed up with being accused of being reckless, agressive, stupid etc. by other drivers, insurance companies and on one occasion, the police. At the end of the day, I like my Saab and don't want to dent it. And if I ever had to make an insurance claim, that would be the end of me being able to afford a policy. And would you entrust your life to an inflated bin liner?Airbags don't save your life. Good driving does. Good driving also saves other people's lives. Airbags etc are there as a last resort when your skill, attention, care etc have failed. They are also of no use to a struck pedestrian/cyclist etc. Don't rely on them to save your neck John Parry (18) 88 900i "Geoff Waters" <grw888nopsamo.com> wrote in message news:f5365c5f.0107111305.2bc3e5afnopsaming.google.com... > ollisandbrownnopsamcom (Ollis and brown) wrote in message news:<20010710181701.10908.00003250nopsama1.aol.com>... > > at 18 with no experience, get him a Ford Escort 1.1 He is less likely to hit > > anything then to need the airbag. > > You're probably right about that. My first car was a 1959 VW beetle > with IIRC 32 bhp. I hit a few things with it but never very hard.
