Well, for the first 100K miles or so on my '88 900T (oil and water cooled), I paid attention to this and tried to behave. However, since then, I've been pretty much ignoring to do that. I'm at almost 250K miles now, and it's just starting to make noise. I have a replacement (rebuilt) that I bought from someone here, and if/when it gets bad enough to concern me, I'll deal with it. But, it's not like it's going to burn out every few years, or every 100,000 miles or anything. 1/4 of a million miles is, after all, pretty darn good. Dave Hinz
