Subject: Yet another radio/code issue

Imagine my joy at finding a 92 9000 Griffin Edition with all the bells and whistles for $4900 US... the catch? Dead battery. Oh, and no owner's manual in the glove compartment or elsewhere. I won't bore you with the experience I had with my "friendly local dealer" in attempting to track down the stereo code. Suffice it to say that Marin Volvo/Saab (my less local cool Saab shop) had the code for me inside of five minutes. This stereo package is the Radio/Cassette unit on top, with the single-disc CD player in the space below, including equalizer, and the six-disc changer in the back. Code in hand, I followed a post on saabnet.com, holding down the code button and attempting to post my four-digit code. No luck. Holding down the code button (or any other) for any length of time does not prompt me with the word "code" at this point, either. Next step: as per a post on this group, disconnect the battery, let everything power down for an hour, and try again. No joy. Overnight? Still no joy. Pull the stereo unit out, remove the top cover and find a small, permanently affixed watch-type battery inside. My questions at this point: 1. Do you suppose the internal battery is holding onto a mis-entered code, and the entire unit is now in lockout mode? 2. My display, upon powering up the unit (and before the ding-ding-ding drives me completely batty) shows "2234". What does this mean? 3. My idea now is to let the unit sit long enough to discharge it's internal battery and see if that clears up the problem. Does anyone know of a reason why this should not work? 4. Am I better advised to take it to the dealer, or will they essentially play the same game I'm playing? Many thanks.
