Snow belt of Upstate New York; winter's very long and we have our fair share of freezing rain/ice as well as quite a bit of snow (190" last year); plus I live away from any big cities and in a valley, so there's no place to go without going up a big hill. As for degrading the road surface, well, that's what I pay my taxes for. Studs are legal Nov-April here and you'd be surprised how many people have them. The wife's got a Jeep and we put them on there too.
