If crash resistance, an exciting drive and a little exclusivity are important to you, the Saab wins hands down. However, I've found that the Mazda is more reliable (GASP HORROR - I'll be labelled a heretic saying that here) and has better fuel economy. Also for long boring motorway drives, I find the Mazda is a better tool for the job. Also ALL of the electicals work, something that keeps me poking about with my Saab for many a jolly evening. I find them both similar to work on and both are soundly engineered cars. If the Mazda is rusty though, it may not be too long before the end of the body work. Whereas Saabs seem to get localized areas of rust, once it is in a Mazda it quickly turns into a tea strainer. Having said all that, I'm running my Saab presently, the Mazda is laid up in my garage - A worthy car yes, but - Oh So boring. 'arry Both are
