I had to replace the both check valves about a year ago in my '97 900. Disassembling the old ones I found that the seals were in very bad condition, which had the effect of gluing the valves shut. As for an earlier poster's comment about spray direction, just stick a pin into the spray hole and use it as a lever to realign the spray.
