OK, fair enough! : Is there any hesitation while this smoke is happening?. Sure is - feels like the car is stumbling, running really rich. : Black : smoke is usually an indication of unburned fuel. Also this could : be an excessive deposits on the cylinders, particularly if the car : is driven for short distances. Well, I drive about 30 miles at a shot to & from work, so I don't think that's it. : Maybe you need a good fuel system : cleaner (two treatments of Chevron's Techron Concentrate). Tried that too. : In addition to what Carl is saying, I would check plugs, plug wires : and check fuel pump and change air filter (and while at it fuel filter). I'll look for deposits on the plugs, good idea. They're at about 100,000 miles, according to my memory and logbook. Probably due ;) Wires are same age. Air filter is a K&N, and I washed & reoiled it recently (but not just before the problems started...) : All these are cheaper than an O2 sensor. Priced plug wires lately? Thanks for the ideas, Tony. I'll have a shot at these as well. Some of this should be done "just because", anyway, so it certainly won't hurt. Dave Hinz
