If your 9000 is like my 94 900 the turn signal is a self enclosed assembly with numerous switches built into the housing. They wear out. I've had to replace my once for wear and once for breakage. The last time I did so, a seal in the turn signal assembly failed. The turn signal still worked but the brights control was flaky. One key thing to check is the feel of the switch lever. If it feels a little loose, replacing it should solve the problem. Even if it is not loose, I'd bet on the switch assembly. It costs about $75 to get a new one.
