But some people here have >> >said they shift at higher rpms. >> >> I always have, I drive hard and like to red line it up to 6. Now you got me thinking, maybe that is why I did my Honda in. :) > >You're a real speed demon! ;-) HA! Not really, I like low end. I just like to get up and move, not putt putt along. I've been driving this way for years and I enjoy it. I have good reaction time, if I notice it changing I will adjust. As for speeding, well - I looked down and noticed I was going 90mph yesterday on the interstate. YIKES! It didn't feel different then 75-80mph. I don't ever use cruise control and it just creeped up. > >> >When do you shift your classic 900? What kind of revs do you >> >think this engine can regularly handle? >> >> Is it a 16V? That's what I've had and it can handle what ever I dish out. :) >> That is why I love the car. > >It's a 1984 900 S, 8V. I think 8V are not as strong in that respect, I'm not sure. >I drive it pretty hard, but consistently >keep the tach at or under 3500 rpm. I'll go up to 4000 if I >really want to wind it out. I hate that stupid shift light, it bugs me. And....if one more person asks me about it! In the city I'll sometimes shift between 3500-4000 (usually) it all depends on the situation. I know I usuall wind it out, I don't red line it much any more but I did yesterday. I can't help it! When I'm pissed I just do it. > >Did the same with my dearly departed 1984 Jetta GLI (the old, >old body style), and it served me will for many years. That car >was almost as much fun to drive as the Saab. It felt a little >less, uh...substantial, though. That is what I felt in my sisters VW. She had a Passat and it just wasn't the same, even when you tached out. Even she (who knows zilch about cars) noticed the difference when I let her drive my Saab. > >As you said, consistency is one key. Unless you're consistently >abusing the vehicle! ;-) NAH! It loves it, it wants to go JW!! I take good care of "Sabrina." ~J~
