Subject: Re: Does anyone use synthetic oils?

I am not the one who said that Mobil 1 is better than the other synthetics, so I will not answer you last question. Insofar as the "name brand" full synthetics in the USA (Valvoline, Castrol, Quaker State, and Mobil 1, etc.) I don't think there is a significant difference in quality, not anywhere near the difference between conventional oil and synthetics. In the USA, all of the name brand full synthetic oils are comparable in price at most retail stores. If you are talking about "no name" or "house" brands of synthetic oil, I have no idea as to their specifications, quality, or price. If you found such a "no name" brand of synthetic oil in the UK for half the price of Mobil 1, you would have to tell us who the actual manufacturer was, and provide specifications, in order for anyone to make a comment about the quality. Since Mobil 1 is imported into the UK, this might also account for its higher price outside the USA. Even most high quality conventional oils satisfy the API SJ/CF ACEA A3/B3 Saab requirements, but I don't think you would claim that any conventional oil is as good as Mobil 1. Whether or not the extra quality of Mobil 1 (and similar full synthetics) is actually needed, is an entirely separate question. > OK you put me on the spot there. I'm in the UK and was thinking of > a well known UK high street store brand of fully synthetic oil > that I have been using for my Saab 1993 9000 CSE 2.0 LPT.
