Subject: 9k transmission removal

The Saab method for removing the transmission for clutch or transmission repairs is to remove the subframe and lower everything out. I believe the book time for removal and reinstallation is 12 hours. Is this the only way to do it, or can you cut lots out by taking it out the top rather than down? I'm just about to remove my tranny for a rebuild so any pointers would be a big help. cheers David
