Simon, It would be easier to understand your problem if the doors were described consistently as drivers/passengers rather than left/right. Remember that these messages are read all over the world and we don't all drive on the same side of the road. Door trim pulls away quite easily after you have removed the handle, the plate under the release lever, and the lamp fitting. Just prise it away carefully starting at bottom rear corner. The main retainers are like big press studs.
