Interesting job....ahem > Keys can make a *nasty* dent in a knee, when the knee approaches at, > say, 60 miles an hour. I can imagine. I survived a head on crash earlier this year in a ford sedan fitted with airbags. Approx impact speed between 40 and 50 kmp/h both cars, hence apparent impact speed twice that. Amazingly I sort of walked away. Others weren't so lucky. I realize all impacts are different, however it was my left knee that was banged up and not my right, where the keys were. I'll give a lot of credit to the car I was driving at the time (my fathers), however I had such a scare, I sold my beloved 66 Mustang (RHD conversion) and went straight out and bought what I consider one of the safest cars around, hence why I frequent this NG. > Never had a problem with the location of the keys for the reason you cite > above, either...the gear shift is a *much* bigger obstacle in the front seat > area. A manual perhaps. The Auto gear lever can be moved much further forward. Of course I was just kidding in my previuos post, however, upon looking at the key location last evening, I noticed that the handbrake actually sits higher that the key.... cough ... lol Cheers Davo > Dave >
