Rattling in the engine can be related to timing chain, I doubt a tappet, but it is possible (balance shaft chains in later models). If the rattling is audible while running, it could restrict power by giving a false 'knock signal'. The DI/APC system uses the sparkplugs as part of the system. Make sure that they are the right brand and type (NGK only, not a bosch or champion 'equivalent'). Make sure that they are gapped correctly. The knock sensor is screwed to the engine in the DI/APC cars as well IIRC. Probably good to get the British manual on the 9k (no US manual available) or better yet, the Saab manual and read up on the systems.
