Compare that to a Toyota (or > Honda), you will see how much it realistically costs you to own a Saab. It is a different matter if you want to buy from a Saab dealer; forecourt prices are high, presumably because they check the car over and include some warranty. But the general the second hand car market is suppressed; you can pick up bargains from magazine adds. Auctions even better if you have the nerve. Japanese cars may be very reliable, but they frequently change their exterior shape to suit the affluent home market. This evens out their percieved reliability advantage. My 1993 9000 CSE has practical no market value to speak of, yet it is in pristine condition. Probably better than many a new car with rattles and squeeks thrown in. My worst fear is really serious collision damage, hence I drive it gently. Johannes
